Long-time Warner Bros. International Television executive Malcolm Dudley-Smith is returning to his native Australia, as the company's Senior Vice President & General Manager, Asia Pacific, it was announced today by Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television.
Based in Sydney, Dudley-Smith will be responsible for managing the strategic direction of the distribution operations throughout Asia in all television media, including free, basic, pay as well as its digital ad-supported and subscription video-on-demand business. In addition, he will help drive the local production strategies throughout the region and oversee the continued roll out of WarnerTV Asia, WBITD's linear
Branded service in the region. Dudley-Smith will report to Jim Brehm, Senior
Vice President, Sales, Canada, Asia Pacific and Latin America, WBITD.
Dudley-Smith will be replacing Greg Robertson, who is leaving the company after 28 years, serving most recently as WBITD's Senior
Vice President & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, WBITD.
'Greg has done an outstanding job growing our business in the region and navigating us through the many changes in the broadcasting landscape during the last decades," said Schlesinger. "We look forward to a seamless transition as Malcolm takes over at a time when our business in Australia and Asia has never been better. With Malcolm taking this position, we are able to align our traditional linear licensing, our channels business and our new non-linear licensing business under one experienced senior executive."
Dudley-Smith, a 19-year veteran of the Studio, has been serving since 2007 as Executive
Vice President, Business Management,
Branded Services, where he was charged with managing all business aspects of the
Branded services group and coordinating its activities with WBITD's traditional licensing operation. The group launched and/or operated more than 50 subscription-video-on-demand services (on such platforms as Virgin and BT in the UK, J-Com in Japan and KT in Korea, to name a few) and two linear networks (The Warner Channel in Latin America and WarnerTV in Asia).
He joined the company in 1994 as
Vice President, Pay-TV and New Technology Licensing - Europe, based in London. Two years later, he was promoted to Senior
Vice President, Pay-TV and Business Development, and relocated to WBITD's Burbank, Calif. headquarters.
Before joining WBITD, Dudley-Smith was
Vice President, Sales and Business Development, United International Pictures Pay TV, starting in 1993, where he was responsible for the sales, business development and new technology functions within the partnership of Paramount, MCA/Universal and MGM/UA. He holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Monash University in Melbourne, and subsequently qualified as an Australian CPA.
