Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media (FDM) announced today that they have acquired theatrical and all DVD/VOD rights to A TRUE STORY, the coming-of-age comedy directed by Malcolm Goodwin (star of A & E's "Breakout Kings"). The film introduces Cameron Fife and Tyler McGee, who also co-wrote the script, and includes Katrina Bowden ("30 Rock," AMERICAN REUNION), Kelen Coleman ("The Mindy Project," "The Newsroom"), Keith Loneker (LAKEVIEW TERRACE) and Jon Gries (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE). The film was produced by Goodwin, Fife and McGee, and is slated for a day and date release on theatrical and VOD in September, 2013.

The film concerns Mike and Matt (Fife and McGee), two broke writing partners and best friends, waiting for their big break. When Mike's ex-girlfriend Deanna (Bowden) comes back into his life, Matt will do anything to save his only friend from another broken heart. A TRUE STORY is a film within a film...within a film, as we see the less glamorous side of Hollywood. The story is not, however, inclusive to the LA scene. It's a story about resisting temptation, maintaining integrity, and keeping track of what's really important in life: the people that really love you and would do anything for you, however imperfect they might be.

FDM's Susan Jackson brokered the DVD/VOD deal with the producer's rep Bill Vergos of Spy Filmz on behalf of Team Awesome Films.

"This is a fun and honest film about two guys chasing their Hollywood dreams while trying to survive the nightmares in their everyday life. It's a true labor of love, fueled by the fact that every artist involved in the process of making this film has at some point been in our two main characters shoes. If you're in the business of creating art then our 'little film that could' will remind you of what it was like when you took that leap of faith to chase your dream," said Goodwin.

Recent Freestyle Digital Media titles include the SXSW festival favorite FUNERAL KINGS from the McManus Brothers, the critically-acclaimed documentary Samsara from filmmakers Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson, and TIGER EYES, the first big screen adaptation of a Judy Blume novel, starring Willa Holland.
