In a message to his fans, professional dancer and cast member on DANCING WITH THE STARS, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, announced on TV Guide that he's not certain he'll return to the competition show for another season.
In the letter, fan-favorite Chmerkovskiy discusses his recent elimination with actress Kirstie Alley, his desire to help give back to communities following Hurricane Sandy, and what he hopes for the competition as a whole as it moves forward.
In regards to this week's challenge of combining classic dances with off-kilter themes, such as the 'Caveman' hustle, Chmerkovskiy expresses his disappointment.
"Honestly, I'm not sure why producers feel they need to throw in these new and non-ballroom dance styles," he writes. "I really do believe that fans want to see good ballroom dancing and it's hard to do so when the pros don't even know the dance styles. If it's not broken, why fix it?"
Due to these changes, and his desire to give back to his friends on the east coast following last month's hurricane, Chmerkovskiy is unsure if he will return.
"I have not made a decision about next season yet. To be honest, I have many offers and I might need a break," he concludes.
Chmerkovskiy has performed on DANCING since its second season. In the seasons he's been apart of the show, he and his various partners have made it to the final round four times, twice as runner-ups and twice in third place.
