According to the Hollywood Reporter, former L.A. Lakers superstar Earvin 'Magic' Johnson is set to launch a new cable network 'Aspire'. The venture will target the African-American community and will appear on Comcast this summer.

Johnson invisions his new network as a general interest channel with original shows, movies and documentaries aimed at African Americans. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, he commented, "African-Americans have choices, and now they have another one." The legendary basketball star went on to explain that his goal was to create the "next BET" and create new opportunities for African-American actors, directors and producers.

Comcast recently acquired a controlling piece of NBCUniversal last year. The cable company promised it would launch up to ten "minority-owned channels" over the next decade.

Johnson will be joined in his new venture by Gospel Music Channel owner GMC.
