NBA Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and Larry Bird will visit the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Wednesday, April 11 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Their LATE SHOW appearance will take place the same night as the official Broadway premiere of MAGIC/BIRD a play based on their fabled basketball rivalry and their long-standing friendship off the court.
While this will be Johnson’s sixth visit to the LATE SHOW, this will mark Bird’s first appearance on Letterman’s late night talk show.
The play, written by Academy Award winner Eric Simonson and based on conversations with Los Angeles Lakers legend Johnson and Boston Celtics icon Bird, chronicles the intertwined lives of these two basketball legends, who were at the heart of one of the most storied rivalries in sports history. It also explores how their professional rivalry on the court in the 1980s turned into one of the greatest friendships off the court. “Magic/Bird,” produced by Tony Award winners Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, in association with the NBA and with creative input from Johnson and Bird, is currently in previews at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre and will officially open April 11.
Also visiting the LATE SHOW on Wednesday, April 11 are musical guests Kaiser Chiefs.
The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope, Eric Stangel, Justin Stangel and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.
