MUSIC FROM THE INSIDE OUT Doc Feat. Philadelphia Orchestra Receives Digital Re-Release

Music from the Inside Out, the acclaimed documentary by Academy-Award nominated filmmaker Daniel Anker, has been re-released digitally this week by Cinedigm, and will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, XBox, Playstation, and Google / Youtube. The film was featured at festivals throughout the world, and opened theatrically in 2005 to critical raves, running for four months in the Philadelphia area, followed by a two-month run at the Cinema Village in New York, with releases in 40 other cities in the U.S. and Japan. The film was nominated for the International Documentary Association's Distinguished Feature Award, and received a "Parent's Choice" Silver Award.

Filmed over a period of five years on three continents, Music from the Inside Out is the result of a collaboration between the filmmaker and the musicians of The Philadelphia Orchestra, one of the world's preeminent musical ensembles. It is the Orchestra's first film appearance since Disney's Fantasia.

Unique in style and approach, the main character of the film is "Music" itself. Incorporating a blend of well-loved musical works - including classical, jazz, bluegrass, salsa, and world music - the film features one of the most eclectic soundtracks of any recent documentary.

It is a film that strives for passion and intimacy. The musical performances are interwoven with the musicians' individual stories, each of which has at its core the struggle to find personal expression when one's profession requires performance as part of an ensemble. Ultimately, the film attempts to break down the barriers that have long separated orchestra musicians and their audiences, and get to the essence of the magic and the mystery of music itself.

Music from the Inside Out inspired an extensive curriculum Music from the Inside Out: Music Literacy for Upper Elementary, Middle School, and High School published by Alfred Music in 2007, the world's largest educational music publisher. It is now in use in hundreds of school districts around the country. The curriculum is based on the techniques of the "Reading and Writing Workshop" pioneered at Columbia University Teachers College, and provides the means for non-music teachers to bring music education into the classroom.

Music from the Inside Out is the latest in a long series of accomplishments for the Orchestra. As a preeminent Orchestra throughout the 20th Century, the ensemble, now in its 113th season, has a long history of firsts, including the first to record electrically and to make a long-playing recording, the first to appear on nationwide television, the first American orchestra to perform in China and in Vietnam, the first major orchestra to perform at a World Series game, and the first to give a live cybercast of a concert on the internet.
