Future (born Nayvadius Wilburn, November 20, 1985) is a Haitian-American rapper from Kirkwood, Atlanta, Georgia signed to
Epic Records. His name came about after members of The Dungeon Family called him "The Future." His cousin, producer Rico Wade of The Dungeon Family, encouraged him to sharpen his writing skills and pursue a career as a rapper.
In 2012, Future released his debut album PLUTO, which landed in the top ten of the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart and was slated in the top album lists of 2012 by the likes of the New York Times,
Washington Post, and SPIN. Bursting on to the music scene with his rattling lead single off PLUTO "Tony Montana" in late 2011, Future's debut album continued to rise throughout 2012 with the second single "Turn On The Lights," which is RIAA certified Gold. Throughout 2012 and 2013, Future has continued his prominence on the airwaves with appearances on top charting tracks that have made him a mainstay at urban radio. Tracks written by and featuring Future such as "Bugatti" with
Ace Hood and Rick Ross, "Love Me" with Drake and
Lil Wayne and "Loveeeeeee Song" with
Rihanna have all reached the top ten of the Urban charts.
Currently, Future is on the nationwide "Would You Like A Tour?" arena tour with Drake and Miguel. Earlier this year, Future released the first two singles off his forthcoming album "Honest," including the title track "Honest" and club favorite "SH!T."
