MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc, today announced the 2014 dates for the biggest nights in movies and music, the "MTV Movie Awards" and the "MTV Video Music Awards." With an unparalleled reputation for delivering unforgettable music performances and unpredictable, viral moments, audiences can always expect the unexpected when the 2014 "MTV Movie Awards" airs on Sunday, April 13, 2014 and the 2014 "MTV Video Music Awards" takes the stage on Sunday, August, 24, 2014.
"MTV Movie Awards"
This year, the "2013 MTV Movie Awards" aired on Sunday, April 14, moving up from its historical June date to officially kick off the summer blockbuster movie season. More than 3.8 million total viewers tuned in for the star-studded spectacle hosted by Rebel Wilson, which celebrated the biggest movies and stars of the year, as well as ushering in hotly anticipated new releases. The ratings grew 21 percent over 2012 with MTV's core demographic, delivering a strong 3.4 P12-34 rating, and jumped even more among older demographics, with a 45 percent increase among P18-34 and a 44 percent increase with P18-49. Additionally, the "2013 MTV Movie Awards" garnered more than three million social mentions from over 1.1 million unique sources, which marks a 100 percent increase over the previous year's show, according to Trendrr.
"MTV Video Music Awards"
With the Movie Awards firmly set in April, bookending the biggest summer events of the year will be the 2013 "Video Music Awards" airing onAugust 25, the final Sunday before Labor Day weekend. This year, the VMA's are set to make history as they head to Brooklyn, New York for the first time ever, airing LIVE from Barclays Center. This year's "Video Music Awards" will mark the 30th anniversary of the show and become the first major annual award show to take place in the borough of Brooklyn. Next year, the VMA's will also fall on the final Sunday before Labor Day weekend, on August 24, 2014 to celebrate the biggest musical performances and artists of the year. The 2013 and 2014 "MTV Video Music Awards" will air across MTV's global network of more than 60 channels reaching more than a half-billion households around the world as well as through syndication. In addition, its convergent programming and content will reach the entire interactive community, via MTV's more than 300 digital media properties around the world.
