Deadline reports that ABC's Emmy-winning comedy Modern Family might be getting a spin-off, if talks between ABC and producer 20th Century FOX TV move forward.

One idea is to base the spin-off around Rob Riggle's character from last season, Gil Thorpe, who is a top SoCal realtor and in-your-face rival to Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell).

Modern Family co-creators and producers Steve Levitan and Paul Corrigan are behind the idea, along with script writer Brad Walsh.

The recipient of four consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Television Series, MODERN FAMILY just returned this Wednesday for its fifth season on ABC.

The series stars Ed O'Neill as Jay, Julie Bowen as Claire, Ty Burrell as Phil, Sofía Vergara as Gloria, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron, Sarah Hyland as Haley, Nolan Gould as Luke, Ariel Winter as Alex, Rico Rodriguez as Mannyand Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily.
