MODERN FAMILY Reveals Recurring Character's Death

On tonight's episode of "Modern Family," it was revealed which character would die. (SPOILERS ahead!)

In the Halloween-themed episode of season ten, it is revealed that Claire and Mitchell's mother, DeDe has passed away. After hearing the news, Phil and Cam try to cheer their spouses up during an attempted fun Halloween night.

This death comes after it was announced by co-creator Christopher Lloyd in September that a "significant character" would die on the show.

DeDe, who was played by Shelley Long. was Jay's first wife, and during her appearances on the show, it was evident she had a difficult relationship with her children. And when Lloyd made the announcement, he said the death "will be a moving event - an event that has repercussions across several episodes." This makes sense moving forward as Claire and Mitchell will have a lot to process.

The episode was not without its fun, however, with the characters all dressed up in Halloween costumes, like Mitchell's Prince Harry and Cam's Megan Markle.
