According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Cruise's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 has stopped production to retool the film's ending. Director Christopher McQuarrie is developing a new closing with a mystery writer friend.

An insider told THR, "Chris, Tom and a THIRD PERSON wanted to take a minute to get away from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place."

As far as we know, the movie's release date -- recently moved up from Christmas Day to July 31, 2015 -- will remain the same. BWW will keep you updated as the end comes together!

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5, written by video game scribe Will Staple, marks the return of franchise star Tom Cruise, who also executive produces for Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot returns as producer. Rebecca Ferguson co-stars.

In the last MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE installment, titled GHOST PROTOCOL, blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates "Ghost Protocol." Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency's name and prevent another attack. To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know. Cruise returned in the starring role as Ethan Hunt and was joined by an international cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist,Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway,Anil Kapoor and Lea Seydoux.
