As BWW reported earlier today, the winner of the 2015 MISS UNIVERSE crown turned out not to be the biggest news of the annual pageant. In a live television broadcast from Las Vegas last evening, host STEVE HARVEY misread the names of the first runner-up and winner, and announced that Miss Colombia was the recipient of this year's crown.

After the beauty queen received the crown and began to take her victory walk before a cheering audience, Harvey realized his error and attempted to correct it on live television. "Folks let me take control of this," said THE TALK show host, holding up the card with the correct winner's name.

In a very uncomfortable two minutes of live TV, the crown was taken off of Miss Colombia and placed on the head of a stunned Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. Watch the error unfold on live TV below:

Today, The MISS UNIVERSE organization released an official statement following the pageant:

"The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on The MISS UNIVERSE stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated. Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong winner was initially announced. Our sincerest apologies to MISS UNIVERSE Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, MISS UNIVERSE Philippines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans."
