Telemundo announced the addition of international music star Luis Fonsi as judge and vocal adviser of the mega-reality music competition, "Yo Soy El Artista" (I'm The Artist), slated to premiere in September. The award-winning artist, known as "The Voice of Pop" and one of the top Latin music acts, will serve as vocal adviser for the school and will join singer Olga Tañon as part of the judging panel of the reality to be hosted by international star, Lucero. With castings completed across major cities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, "Yo Soy el Artista" will feature talented contestants who will have to sing, dance and demonstrate star quality and showmanship, in an intense 13-week competition where the winner will be named the ultimate true "Artist."
"I'm happy to join 'Yo Soy el Artista' and be part of the team responsible of the search for future Latin stars," said Fonsi. "I'm pleased to share my knowledge, experience, dedication, passion and discipline for music in my role as a judge and vocal adviser to find the contestant who will be the recipient of the title of "El Artista" (The Artist)."
"Having Luis Fonsi on 'Yo Soy El Artista' adds a unique and different component to the competition since we have witnessed his growth as an artist and become an international music star," said Maria Lopez-Alvarez, SVP of Reality Programming at Telemundo. "His contribution to the show will be essential not only because of his great talent and popularity, but also his accomplishments as a singer, that has taken him around the world."
With an artistic career that spans more than 17 years, Luis Fonsi, named "Leader of Latin Music's New Generation" by Billboard magazine, has earned multiple platinum and gold record sales in Mexico, Spain, US, Puerto Rico, and Latin America. With millions of followers on social media, he holds the record for the longest-running No. 1 single on Billboard's Latin Pop Airplay list for "No Me Doy Por Vencido," which spent 30 weeks at the top in 2008. He has six No. 1's on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart and three No. 1's on the Top Latin Albums chart. Fonsi, who released his new album "8" last May, has been the recipient of important music awards, including the prestigious Latin Grammy and Latin Billboard.
Telemundo and Spain's Reset TV partnered to jointly own, develop, produce and distribute internationally, this reality competition series based on an original concept from Reset TV founders, Toni Cruz and Josep Maria Mainat, the creators of popular entertainment formats such as Cronicas Marcianas (Martian Chronicles), Mira Quien Baila (Look Who's Dancing) and Operacion Triunfo (Star Academy), among others.
