According to a report in Variety, screen star and London stage vet Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in Source Code, a new sci-fi thriller for Vendome Pictures and the Mark Gordon Company.

"Source Code" tells the story of a soldier (who would be played by Gyllenhaal) who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to solve a mystery of a train explosion and find the criminal. The project was first developed in 2007 by Universal Pictures based on Ben Ripley's screenplay.  At the time, Topher Grace was set to star.  The new script has been revised by Billy Ray (of State of Play fame).  Duncan Jones (Moon) is set to direct, with production beginning in early 2010.

The film's distributing rights (national and international) will be a part of Summit Entertainment catalog.

Source Code will be the first film produced under the Vendome banner, according to its CEO Philippe Rousselet.  He claims that Vendome and co-CEO Fabrice Gianfermi plan to produce a minimum of a twelve films within the next five years.

Jake Gyllenhaal made his theatrical debut in Kenneth Lonergan's West End revival of This is Our Youth in the 2002 - 2003 season. Gyllenhaal has said, "Every actor I look up to has done theatre work, so I knew I had to give it a try." The play, which had been a critical sensation on Broadway, ran for eight weeks in London's West End. Gyllenhaal received favorable critical reviews and an Evening Standard Theatre Award in The category "Outstanding Newcomer." Best known on screen for roles in such blockbusters and fan favorites as Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko, and Jarhead, Gyllenhaal will be seen soon in Love and Other Drugs, directed by Ed Zwick, in Jim Sheridan's "Brothers," and in Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
