Earlier this summer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt appeared on stage during Logic's Madison Square Garden concert, and teased a new kind of collaboration. Today, Gordon-Levitt's online creative platform, HITRECORD, and Youtube Originals announced a new, one-hour television special featuring Logic. This one-of-a-kind special will document the creative process as Logic invites people around the world to collaborate with him to create an original song and music video.
Here's how it works: Logic will create the beginnings of an original song - perhaps he'll record a beat and a few lyrics. He'll post this on HITRECORD's online creative platform and issue an open invitation for anybody and everybody in the world to build on what he started - either by playing an instrument, writing lyrics, or by singing vocals. Logic fans, and undiscovered musical talents from around the world will upload their ideas and musical contributions, but it will fall to Logic to select the sounds he loves, which collaborators to recruit, and which direction the song will take. YouTube's special will follow this ambitious collaborative challenge every step of the way, and culminate in the world premiere of the new song's music video.
"YouTube is home to an endless combination of creative collaborations, and we're excited to see what magic happens next when the world is invited to join in on this ambitious musical project from Joseph and Logic," said Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content, YouTube.
"A lot of creativity on the internet feels like a popularity contest, but this is about people coming together to make something they might not have been able to make on their own. Logic is the ideal guy to lead a collaborative process like this. I mean the name of his record is EVERYBODY," said Gordon-Levitt.
Logic stated, "So excited to be working with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on this incredible collaboration. Have so much respect for him and am inspired by his passion for HITRECORD."
