Media, PA -- Exceptional local films along with others from as far away as Singapore, Italy and the United Kingdom will be shown as part of the Media Film Festival, April 4th and 5th. Now in its 7th year, the festival of short films has moved to the historic Media Theatre on State Street in downtown Media.

"We are excited to be offering independent filmmakers the opportunity to have their work seen on the big screen at an iconic theater," said Ryan Coughlin, Co-President of the Media Arts Council, which produces the Festival.

A juried presentation of outstanding narrative, documentary and animated short films, the Media Film Festival is sponsored by the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union. Among local films of note: A Man Full of Trouble, directed by Michael Johnston, a charming, dark comedy involving historic re-enactors shot, in part, at Philadelphia's 18th century Woodlands Mansion; Treasure - The Story of Marcus Hook, directed by Valerio Ciriaci, a documentary about a small Delaware County town brought to the brink of disaster when the local oil refinery shuts down and the town's rebirth rooted in its pirate history; Recovery, directed by Robert Waters, the story of a retired boxer with a troubled past who considers whether to take on training a young, up-and-coming fighter; and Adelante, directed by Noam Osband, a documentary looking at a declining Irish-Catholic parish in Norristown, PA energized by the arrival of Mexican immigrant families.

The two-day Media Film Festival opens its Friday and Saturday evening 7PM programs with the world premieres of short films created by local High School students under the guidance of a professional filmmaker as part of the Media Youth Film Initiative, "MyFi", a program created by the Media Arts Council in partnership with the Media Youth Center. Included, again, in this year's event is the popular Friday Night Horror Fest starting at 10:30pm. On Saturday there will be a 3:00pm matinee.

Celebrity hosts for the festival, include the husband-wife team of Fox 29's Sue Serio and actor Bill Vargus who live in Media, as well as Charlie Maxx, also a Media resident, co-host of John & Charlie in the Morning on WJBR-FM in Wilmington where she is Program Director and Ann Crumb, a respected Broadway actress, who will star in the Media Theatre's production of the musical Sunset Boulevard.
