'Law & Order' Star Dennis Farina Dies at 69

Variety reports that Dennis Farina, best known for his role on NBC's 'Law & Order,' has died at the age of 69. According to his representative Lori De Waal, the actor passed away this morning in a Scottsdale, AZ hospital where he was being treated for a blood clot to his lung.

Farina was born on a leap year, February 29, 1944, in Chicago. He began his career as a police officer before becoming an actor. Among his many film credits are "Get Shorty," 'Saving Private Ryan" and "Midnight Run."

On TV, he portrayed Det. Joe Fontana on NBC's long running crime drama "Law & Order." He also appeared in the 1980s cult favorite, "Crime Story" and most recently starred in the HBO drama series "Luck."
