In this latest installment of E!'s investigative series "Society X," Laura Ling explores the growing phenomenon of people living and looking like plastic dolls. Elaborate make-up, stylized wigs, specialized contacts, specific wardrobe and, for some, endless surgical procedures, allow some obsessed with the lifestyle to become "living doll" versions of themselves. "Society X with Laura Ling: Living Dolls" premieres tonight, August 14 at 8:00PM ET/PT.
In this all-new special, Ling will introduce viewers to both male and female "living dolls" like Emily Smith who relies on hours of makeup, wigs and the perfect wardrobe to transform her appearance. Blondie Bennett, underwent multiple invasive and often risky plastic surgeries to achieve the perfect "doll" look. Blondie is taking her transformation to an even more bizarre extreme by using hypnosis to become mentally vacant...just like a doll. "For myself, I like being an object...to be not real, not human," Bennett said. "I would really love to be 15% plastic."
Ling reveals the story of thirty-year-old Rodrigo Alves who suffers from body dysmorphia yet can't stop going under the knife. After multiple procedures and surgeries, he is still striving for perfection. And then there's the case of Justin Jedlica. Also known as the "human doll." Jedlica designed and customized his own implants, spending more than $200,000 in his quest to literally mold himself into a "silicon statue."
Tune in for a revealing look at how these "plastic dolls" achieve their looks and live their lives when "Society X with Laura Ling: Living Dolls" premieres Thursday, August 14 at 8:00PM ET/PT.
