Tonight on American Idol, the Top 3 Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey visited their hometowns in emotional video segments. Each finalist also performed two songs as their journey into the finale continues, performers got to chose one song from any genre and then so did the judges.
First up was Gokey singing the judges' choice, Terrance Trent D'arby's "Dance Little Sister" which was met with mixed results from the judges, Allen was next with the judges' choice, "Apologize" by One Republic. Allen's performance was for the most part, a miss according to the panel's reactions.
Simon's song choice for Adam Lambert was "One" by U2, he made the song his own, and while not a complete home run due to the arrangement veering off so much from the original melody at one point it still was a solid performance on every level. Lambert's take on the tune earned a "brilliant, brilliant performance" review from Cowell.
For the singer's personal choices we got Danny's splendid "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker, Kris singing "Heartless" by Kanye West and finally, Adam soaring on Aerosmith's "Cryin'". All handled their choices with creative ease, a winning evening. Now it is up to America to vote!
On last Wednesday's results show America voted and Lambert made it to the next round as a member of the Top 3 finalists. Adam Lambert said he was thrilled to have been able to sing a Led Zepplin song last night, "and I liked my outfit." Allison Iraheta, the remaining lone female finalist was sent home.
The eighth season champ is scheduled to be crowned May 20.
Adam Lambert, Matt Giraud, and Kris Allen made up American Idol's bottom three last week, a shock that was one of the most stunning voting "upsets" in the program's long history.
In addition to performing in WICKED, Adam Lambert also had a role in The Ten Commandments and appeared in The Zodiac Show.
