Lakeshore Records will release the Smashed – Original Soundtrack digitally on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. The album features original music by Andy Cabic (the band Vetiver) and Eric D. Johnson (Ceremony, Nature Calls, the band Fruit Bats) and songs by Richard and Linda Thompson, Smog, La Tentazion and Dark Meat.

"Andy and I share such similar taste to [co-writer/director] James Ponsoldt and (music supervisor) Tiffany Anders that this gig felt like a breeze," described Johnson. "We were more like a rock band, the four of us - very much on the same page and working in tandem on a tight schedule."

Eric D. Johnson is an American singer/songwriter and composer, most well known as the front man and sole permanent member of the long-running Sub Pop band Fruit Bats, and as a multi-instrumentalist with The Shins and Califone. His film scores include Max Winkler's Ceremony (2011), Jesse Peretz's Our Idiot Brother (2011) and Todd Rohal's Nature Calls (2012). He is a Gemini who lives in Portland, OR and makes a mean gazpacho.

Andy Cabic is a member of the band Vetiver, and a former member of The Raymond Brake. Smashed is Cabic's first feature film.

"The scene Santa's Village [track 10 on the soundtrack] had the most emotional resonance with me," explained Johnson. "It's a little dreamy, it's a couple's last hurrah, a quite subtle kind of happy moment for them. But a lot of sadness underneath. We never intended for that piece of music to kind of become the main theme, but it did."

Smashed, which earned a Special Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, follows Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Charlie (AaRon Paul), a young married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of music, laughter and drinking...especially the drinking. When Kate?s drinking leads her to dangerous places and her job as a school teacher is put into jeopardy, she decides to join AA and get sober. With the help of her friend and sponsor Jenny, and the vice principal at her school, the awkward, but well intentioned, Mr. Davies, Kate takes steps toward improving her health and life. Sobriety isn?t as easy as Kate had anticipated. Her new lifestyle brings to the surface a troubling relationship with her mother, facing the lies she?s told her employer and calls into question whether or not her relationship with Charlie is built on love or is just boozy diversion from adulthood.

"This movie is equal parts funny and equal parts serious - but the music was never supposed to tell you how to feel - the directing and acting performances are so amazing that we didn't need to do much to make you feel something," said Johnson.
