Following its strong Christmas Day Debut of $18 million, Tom Hooper's big screen adaptation of LES MISERABLES grossed an additional $28 million this weekend (Dec. 28 - 30), bringing its domestic box office total to $67.4 million. Overall, the sweeping epic musical placed third.
Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT, once again, stood tall over the rest of the competition, earning another $32.9 million during the holiday week. The film has now earned $222 million since it opened just weeks ago.
In second place was Quentin Tarantino's latest venture, DJANGO UNCHAINED, which garnered $30.6 million just since Friday alone. Its cumulative total now sits at $64 million.
20th Century Fox's PARENTAL GUIDANCE, starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, catered to family audiences, taking in $14.8 million during the weekend, boosting its total to $29.5 million. Rounding out the top five was the Tom Cruise-led JACK REACHER, which grossed just over $14 million.
