Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, the co-creators behind L.A.'s Finest, have signed their first overall deal with Sony TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Under the two-year deal, Margolis and Sonnier will develop new projects for all platforms for the studio.
The team started their careers as staff writers on the first season of NBC's The Blacklist, produced by Sony TV. They then served as co-showrunners on the procedural L.A.'s Finest, starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union, which was picked up to series at Charter Communications. The series will become Spectrum Original Content's first major series order, after NBC passed on the pilot.
L.A.'s Finest, a spinoff of Bad Boys II, follows Syd Burnett (Union), last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, who has left her complicated past behind to become an LAPD detective. Paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mom with an equally complex past, Syd is pushed to examine whether her unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret. These two women don't agree on much, but they find common ground when it comes to taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles in this character-driven drama.
