LA Screenwriter (la-screenwriter.com), a leading online resource for working and aspiring screenwriters, and LiveRead/LA (livereadla.com), a screenwriting event series, workshop, and consultation service, have partnered to launch a new international screenwriting competition, Write/LA (write-la.com). The inaugural Write/LA competition will open for entries on March 23, 2018, with Tim Schildberger-owner of LiveRead/LA, co-founder of Write/LA, and a writer with thirty years of experience-serving as Head Judge.

The team behind Write/LA plan to distinguish the competition as a singular opportunity for aspiring screenwriters. Three grand prize winners will each take part in:

  • A three-night trip to Los Angeles, including airfare and lodging at the iconic Hollywood hotel, The Standard.
  • A private two-day screenwriting workshop with masterclasses led by Tim Schildberger, and multiple opportunities to meet and learn from working Industry Insiders.
  • An exclusive Live Read Gala where up to thirty pages of each winning script will be read on stage by professional actors.

"There is no shortage of screenwriting contests that promise meetings with agents or consideration by producers," noted Schildberger, "but those opportunities rarely amount to anything, because it takes more than one good script to succeed in this business. It takes a firm understanding of how the industry operates and, most importantly, the ability to craft emotionally-gripping stories again and again. That's why we've created a truly unique prize for the Write/LA winners that will help them improve their craft, gain helpful contacts, and showcase their writing in front of an exclusive industry crowd."

Write/LA is open to screenwriters around the world, and both film and television scripts will be accepted and judged together.

"We're not interested in rewarding a particular format or genre," said Angela Bourassa, founder of LA Screenwriter and co-founder of Write/LA. "We want to find great stories, and we want to help the people behind those stories become even better writers so they can launch lasting careers. And BEYOND the winners, we want to enable as many writers as we can to improve their craft. That's why we have prizes for everyone who finishes in the top fifty."

Schildberger added, "Experience, education, celebrationthis grand prize stands apart. We'll help our winners take their skills to the next level, give them a sense of what life as a working writer in Los Angeles looks like, and let them experience the many benefits of hearing their words read by professional actors."
