Variety reports that LA LA LAND's Damien Chazelle will re-team with the film's star, Ryan Gosling, for a new biopic on the life of Neil Armstrong for Universal Pictures.
Chazelle will helm the project, titled FIRST MAN, from a script by Oscar-winning writer Josh Singer. The site reports today that final discussions are underway for Gosling to take on the lead role. Filming is expected to commence in early 2017.
Based on James Hansen's biography "First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong," the movie will tell the story of "NASA's mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969." The first-person account "will explore the sacrifices and the cost - on Armstrong and on America - of one of the most dangerous space missions in history."
LA LA LAND has already accumulated a host of nominations for both Chazelle and Gosling. The film expanded to theaters nationwide over the Christmas holiday weekend.
