Another day, another VERONICA MARS alum confirmed to return to Neptune.
Krysten Ritter has officially signed on for the Kickstarter-funded film, Rob Thomas announced today. Ritter will reprise her role as Gia Goodman, former friend of Veronica, and daughter of one-time town mayor, Woody Goodman.
"I'm thrilled to be reprising my role of Gia Goodman in theVeronica Mars movie!!!" Ritter said. "It's gonna be very juicy Marshmallows!!!!! AAAHHHH!!!! Forgive my over-use of exclamation points. Since you can't hear me squealing, I'm reduced to excessive punctuation. Ha!"
Other cast members to have signed deals are Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Chris Lowell, Tina Majorino, and Francis Capra - though Thomas isn't worried that he can swindle just about every other major (and minor) player in Neptune into returning. Much of the cast, including NEW GIRL's Max Greenfield, who played Deputy Leo D'Amato, have all-but inked deals to reprise their roles. Greenfield has also confirmed he'll do the film for free - and even fly himself to the set.
When the Kickstarter project began in March, Thomas outlined a portion of the film's potential plot, writing:
"Life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling. My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica's 10-year high school reunion."
The kickstarter raised over $5.7 million - thanks to the show's Cult following, the film hit its goal of $2 million in just half-a-day into the one-month deadline.
Production will kick off next week.
VERONICA MARS followed the smart, wise-cracking high school student who has a penchant for solving mysteries, while helping her father with his struggling P.I. agency. Despite his warnings, Veronica's determined to uncover the biggest mystery of all: who killed her best friend and created a Scandal that cost her father his job, his home and his wife - and turned Veronica into an outcast at school.
