Comedian Chris Rock, film and TV star Kevin James, singer and actress Ashanti, TV star George Lopez and more will join Mets Legends and Baseball Hall of Famers in the 2013 Taco Bell(R) Legends & Celebrity Softball Game at Citi Field on Sunday, July 14th. Additionally, former Mets catcher Mike Piazza has been added to the roster. Also joining are Hall of Famer and former Mets and Yankees outfielder Rickey Henderson along with former Yankees Bernie Williams, who joins as the American League Captain. Williams will rival former Mets John Franco as the National League Captain. The Softball Game will be televised immediately following the Chevrolet Home Run Derby on ESPN on July 15th.
The roster of celebrity talent includes Brooklyn native Chris Rock, who is three-time Grammy and four-time Emmy Award winner; Long Island native, film and TV star Kevin James; comedian, actor and author George Lopez; Grammy and Billboard Award winning singer and actress Ashanti, who is also a Long Island native; Brooklyn native Mallory Hagan, Miss America 2013; Extra TV host and on-air personality AJ Calloway; Olympic Gold Medalist and ESPN color analyst Jennie Finch; former New York Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason, who will co-captain the National League team with Franco, and Craig Carton, who will co-captain the American League team with Williams, both of WFAN's Boomer and Carton Show; Grammy nominated actor and musician Chord Overstreet; actor James Denton; Long Island native and comedian Gary Valentine; and Wounded Warrior Amputee softball player Josh Wege. The roster will also include the top fundraiser from the MLB All-Star 5K & Fun Run benefiting Sandy Relief presented by Nike. The Run will take place on July 13th in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. In addition to Henderson, Franco, Piazza and Williams, MLB Legends that were previously announced and are scheduled to participate include Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Fred Lynn, Ozzie Smith, and Frank Thomas.
MLB will also host the All-Star 5K & Fun Run benefiting Sandy Relief presented by Nike that will take place on Saturday, July 13th in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York. Participants have the opportunity to create their own fundraising team online via a platform powered by Karma411. The top individual fundraisers will be rewarded with special All-Star experiences including tickets to All-Star events, the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the Chevrolet Home Run Derby and the chance to join celebrities and legends on a team competing in the Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game. Awards will also be presented to the race's top male, female, youth and wheelchair finishers.
The Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game features Major League Baseball Legends with celebrities from TV, movies and music, and is the second game of a fun doubleheader of activity at Citi Field during Taco Bell All-Star Sunday. Preceding the softball game will be the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will air live on ESPN2 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern, featuring some of MLB's best young prospects from the U.S. and around the world. Current Mets players David Wright and Matt Harvey are among the many young stars in baseball who have played in this game, including Justin Verlander, Prince Fielder and Joey Votto.
The Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game will be televised by ESPN at approximately 10:30 p.m. Eastern immediately following the Chevrolet Home Run Derby which begins at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Monday, July 15th. The Game will also be available via the WatchESPN app.
