Vulture reports that Disney has found the director to take on its impending CINDERELLA remake.
Just a few weeks after original director Mark Romanek dropped out, the studio has reportedly tapped Kenneth Branagh to replace him. Inside sources confirmed to the site that the Brit director is entering late negotiations in order to keep the film on schedule.
Though the main role has yet to be cast, Cate Blanchett has signed on to play Cinderella's evil step-mother.
CINDERELLA, should Branagh accept the directorial position, will begin shooting this fall in London. The studio is currently eyeing a 2014 theatrical release.
Branagh, who was knighted at Buckingham Palace in November for his services to drama and the Northern Ireland community, was previuosly nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Laurence Olivier in My Week With Marilyn.
Celebrated Shakespeare actor, Branagh appeared in Renaissance Theatre Company's Hamlet in 1988, played opposite Emma Thompson in Renaissance's Look Back in Anger, and later as Richard III in a Sheffield production. He starred in the Royal National Theatre's Edmond and directed The Play What I Wrote for Broadway in 2003. In 2008, Branagh appeared in the West End's Ivanov revival. Branagh has also appeared on television in the series Wallander, and in many film adaptations of Shakespeare's plays.
