Singer Katy Perry has cancelled an upcoming appearance on CBS's broadcast of the PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS. The network had announced the singer's appearance on the show on January 4th.

Perry revealed that she would be cancelling her performance on her Twitter page on Monday, explaining to fans, "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS." The award ceremony was to mark Perry's first appearance since it was announced last week that she and her husband, comedian Russell Brand, would be divorcing.

Recently, Perry thanked her fans for all their support through the difficult period she has been facing, writing on her twitter page, "I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again."

Now in its 38th year, the PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS is voted on entirely by the public for fan favorites in music, movies and television. The special airs live on the CBS network on January 11th from 9:00 - 11:00 pm ET.
