As previously reported, SMASH star Katharine McPhee -- who just graced Broadway in BOMBSHELL's one-night-only benefit -- will release her new album HYSTERIA on July 24th.
Now, Entertainment Weekly writes that the singer spent some time working with Sia and Florence & the Machine's Isabella Machine on the project.
"I loved working with Sia," McPhee said. "I got in with her when she first started wanting to write with pop artists."
Machine co-wrote McPhee's single "Lick My Lips" (watch the video!). McPhee describes Machine as her "biggest cheerleader," and expects "some of the bold freedom of Florence's music" to appear on the new CD as a result.
Commenting on having to wait to put out a new album, McPhee told EW that HYSTERIA has a more "mature vibe" with "old influences" because of this.
"The songs that I wrote [for Hysteria] were about things either people around me were going through, or I was going through, and I turned them into pop songs," she said. "It took some time because you have to have inspiration. That means you also have to live. You have to go and experience stuff. That's what I did... I felt inspired for the first time."
McPhee recently released the music video for her single "Lick My Lips" -- check it out below!
McPhee currently stars on the new CBS drama SCORPION in the role of "Paige, a working-class hero and diner waitress who understands geniuses who becomes a nanny of sorts and translator for Walter's super team of socially misunderstood masterminds."
A runner-up from American Idol's 5th season, McPhee's self-titled debut album was released in 2007, followed by her second album, UNBROKEN, in 2010 and a holiday album, CHRISTMAS IS THE TIME TO SAY I LOVE YOU, released in 2012.
