Billboard.com reports that Katharine McPhee has begun recording her new studio album. The yet-untitled LP marks her debut with Columbia Records and the third non-holiday album overall. The project will be released later this year and will include songwriting collaborations with Linda Perry, Salaam Remi, OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder and Sia.
The SMASH star appeared on this season of American Idol and performed 'If I Lose Myself' alongside OneRepublic's Tedder. The singer was the 2006 runner-up on the FOX singing competition.
McPhee released a self-titled album with RCA records in 2007. The LP debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the hit single "Over It," which spent 16 weeks on the Hot 100 and peaked at No. 29. In 2010 she followed her success up with "Unbroken" which debuted at No. 27 followed by the holiday album "Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You."
