The world's favorite outlaw seems to be getting yet another screen adaptation.

Joby Harold, screenwriter of the KING ARTHUR franchise, is set to pen a gritty version of the Sherwood Forest bandit, Robin Hood, entitled ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS. From director Guy Ritchie, Appian Way is producing. However, this is not the only upcoming Robin Hood film depiction. Disney is producing Brandon Barker's NOTTINGHAM & HOOD, as well as Sony's untitled Robin Hood project from Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott. Disney's installment is expected to go the way of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, and launch multiple sequels in the same adventure/drama genre, which Disney is so fond of.

There is no official word as of yet concerning which studio will take Harold's script, though there is speculation that it may become assimilated with Sony's project.

Robin Hood is a heroic outlaw found in English folklore who, according to legend, was also a highly skilled archer and swordsman. Traditionally depicted as being dressed in LINCOLN green, he is often portrayed as "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor" alongside his band of "Merry Men". Robin Hood became a popular folk figure in the late-medieval period, and continues to be widely represented in modern literature, films and television. Notable screen adaptations include the Erroll Flynn, as well as ones starring Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Cary Elwes in the spoof MEN IN TIGHTS, and of course Disney's famous cartoon depiction with a fox as the title character.
