Billboard.com reports that Justin Timberlake's new album "The 20/20 Experience', currently at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, has sold 968,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album marks the singer's best sales week ever and the 19th-largest week for an album since SoundScan started tracking information in 1991.
In addition, "20/20" becomes the third-largest sales week for a male singer, falling behind only Usher's 2004 "Confessions" which debuted at 1.10 million and Garth Brooks' 1998 "Double Live" which debuted at 1.09 million.
Timberlake's last musical release, "FutureSex/LoveSounds," debuted at No. 1 with 684,000 while 2002's "Justified," debuted and peaked at No. 2, selling 439,000 copies upon its release.
The new album now becomes the year's best-selling album, easily moving past Mumford & Sons' "Babel" (658,000).
Released on March 19, "20/20" exceeded initial industry forecasts which predicted sales of 500,000 or more. By last Sunday, those estimates grew to between 950,000-975,000.
Digitally, the album sold 452,000 downloads in its debut timeframe, making it the third-largest week ever for a digital album. Only Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and Taylor Swift's "Red" surpassed that number of download sales in a single week.
Timberlake's cumulative solo U.S. album sales now top $9 million, and has even given a boost to "Justified" which has now sold 3.8 million and "FutureSex/LoveSounds" which recently moved up to 4.4 million in sales.
