Juliana Hatfield and director/videographer David Doobinin pay tribute "to those in between, unpolished moments" in the short film "Undiscovered Planet" premiering today on Stereogum.
"Director David Doobinin gives the viewer an intimate window into Hatfield's life and art." -

Juliana is honest and raw as she weaves through conversations about her first musical memories, her aversion to intimate relationships, and embracing solitude, interspersed with songs from her solo catalog (Pussycast, Weird) and bands, Blake Babies and Minor Alps.
"What always struck me about Juliana the previous times we worked together is her physicality," David Doobinin tellsStereogum. "The way she moves through each moment. It's an unselfconscious dance that teeters between a stumbling Chevy Chase and a Runway Model. She has this fearlessness in her music and the way she lives her life. I wanted to try and capture some of that."
The two have collaborated on the visuals and photographs for her most recent solo albums - Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John (2018) and Weird (2019) including two videos for the former. "There is a casualness to his style that puts me at ease--he doesn't push too hard. And I like the results," says Juliana. "He manages to capture something real about who I am and how I see myself, and not many photographers/videographers are able to do that."
It's been a busy three years for Juliana Hatfield who has released as many albums in that time. In 2017, she brought the fury of Pussycat, "a relentless, unabashed and unvarnished reaction to the Trump presidency; a frequently gruesome, sometimes funny and even occasionally hopeful assault on the assaulter-in-chief." -

Then 2018, "a labor of love" (-NPRs
All Songs Considered) with a tribute to her musical hero, the iconic Grammy award winning singer/songwriter and actress on Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John: "The cult favorite's new album is a surprising tribute that reinvents songs from the 1970s darling in her own style." -
Wall Street Journal
And earlier this year, Weird, a new self-produced album of all-originals about disconnection and discomfort, "a collection of acerbic gems" (- Rolling Stone) that's "far from reclusive, Weird is a gregarious, idiosyncratic
Pop album that invites
THE LISTENER to meet it on its own terms..." (-
All Music Guide)
