Otherworld Theatre Company presents the 6th Annual Juggernaut Film Festival, a two-day event to celebrate Science Fiction and Fantasy short films from around the world. The Juggernaut Festival prides itself for bringing together the community- from cinema enthusiasts, filmmakers, artists, and casual moviegoers alike- to encourage and support new and innovative stories in the cinematic arts.
This year's festival takes place Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd from 11:00 am - 5:30 pm each day with an after party June 2 and award ceremony held June 3. The event will be held in Chicago's historic 800 seat Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60613 and is curated by Otherworld Theatre founding artistic director, Tiffany Keane Schaefer. All proceeds from Juggernaut Film Festival go towards Otherworld Theatre's mission of bringing Science Fiction and Fantasy entertainment to the Chicago community.
Actress Gates McFadden, best known for her role as Beverly Crusher in the television and film franchise Star Trek: The Next Generation is scheduled to host. Other contributions to the Science Fiction and Fantasy genre include choreographing for Jim Henson, most notably Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. McFadden will also participate in a gala evening event with photo ops and autographs for VIP festival attendees.
Juggernaut Film festival received 400 submissions this year from 13 different countries around the world. The Juggernaut Festival will, for the first year, screen full length films in addition to short films; Science Fiction film Calliope (Joe Shaffer, writer/director, USA) and the Ukrainian Fantasy film Stronghold (Yury Kovaliov, writer/director, Sashko Dermansky, writer) For this year's event, Juggernaut Festival received hundreds of submissions from filmmakers from twenty countries around the world. Steamwrecked (USA), Tears in the Rain (South Africa) Test 8: Disappeared (Russia), The Tolls (USA), Woodman (Canada), Zoey and the Wind Up Boy (USA) Chicago made selections include Miriam is Going to Mars (Michael Lippert, writer/director) and Earth to Isaac (Jack Birdsall, writer/director).
"So many great stories by indie filmmakers get missed because there is no platform to showcase them- we are proud to put together this festival to celebrate these incredible filmmakers," said Juggernaut festival curator Tiffany Keane Schaefer.
A gala party will take place at 7:00 pm on Saturday, June 2nd to include photo ops and autographs with Gates McFadden for
VIP festival attendees. A talkback with select filmakers will be held at 4:25pm on Sunday, June 3rd. The awards ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the festival on Sunday, June 3rd (Approx. 4:50pm). Awards will be presented to outstanding Filmmakers for categories including "Best Science Fiction", "Best Fantasy", "Best Female Filmmaker", "Audience Favorite", and the "Spirit Award".
