CBS News announced today that Josh Elliott will join CBSN, its 24/7 digital streaming news service, as an anchor later this month. Elliott will bring his extensive reporting experience to CBSN's live coverage throughout the week, both in studio and in the field as news warrants. He will also appear on CBS News broadcasts and other platforms.
In addition to enhancing its news team, CBSN also announced that it will be expanding its live, anchored coverage and bolstering the number of original reports.
Since launching in November 2014, CBSN has steadily attracted more viewers every quarter. During the fourth quarter of 2015, CBSN delivered nearly twice as many streams as in the third quarter and is currently on track for another record-breaking quarter. Additionally, CBSN engagement levels remain high, with the average viewing session across platforms exceeding 40 minutes.
"CBSN is the future of news, and we are thrilled to have Josh on our team," said David Rhodes, President of
CBS News. "Josh will bring tremendous passion to anchoring, reporting and connecting with this new and fast-growing audience."
"CBSN is building momentum and drawing a growing audience of highly engaged viewers across platforms, and we know that Josh will help our team continue to push that forward," said Marc DeBevoise, Executive Vice President and General Manager of
CBS Digital Media. "Josh's experience will allow him to have an immediate impact and jump right into our live coverage of major news events."
"I am deeply honored to be joining
CBS News, and truly excited to be a part of the broadening horizon of CBSN, for which the possibilities are thankfully endless," said Elliott. "Because it will always be about the stories we tell, the chance to do what I so enjoy doing at a place that values its journalism above all else is a gift for which I'm very grateful."
Elliott is a veteran journalist with deep broadcast and writing experience. Most recent, he worked with
NBC Sports, contributing to coverage of national and international sporting events. Prior to that, he spent three years at
ABC News, primarily as the news anchor on Good Morning America, where he covered a wide range of major news events including the 2012 presidential election, the 2013 election of Pope Francis, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and the
BOSTON MARATHON bombing.
Previously, Elliott spent seven years with
ESPN beginning in 2005, serving as anchor of "SportsCenter" from 2006-2011. He previously wrote for
SPORTS ILLUSTRATED for six years from 1999-2005.
Elliott earned a Masters degree from the Columbia School of Journalism and a Bachelors of Arts in English literature from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is based in New York City.
