Even a year after Edward Snowden released NSA files, the interest in his story seems to have no end.
According to ComingSoon.net, in addition to the Laura Poitras documentary, Citizen Four (set to premiere Oct. 24), filmmaker Oliver Stone is also working on a film about the incident, called THE SNOWDEN FILES: THE INSIDE STORY OF THE WORLD'S MOST WANTED MAN. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly the top pick to play the title role.
Although Stone procured the rights for the story, along with producing partner Moritz Borman from Guardian journalist Luke Harding, THE SNOWDEN FILES is actually based on the novel, Time of the Octopus. The book, by Anatoly Kucherena, Snowden's Russian lawyer, mostly chronicles Snowden's stint seeking asylum from the United States in Russia.
Gordon-Levitt's Gordon-Levitt's upcoming projects include The Walk and an untitled Christmas comedy. His recent film credits include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Wind Rises, Don Jon, Lincoln, Looper, The Dark Knight Rises, 50/50, Inception and more. He is also in talks to star in an upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical GUYS AND DOLLS.
