Jimmy Smits has reportedly been cast as the remaining lead role in the Stephen Gaghan pilot being produced by NBC.
Smits made a name for himself starring in "NYPD Blue" and "L.A. Law." Smits also appeared on one season of NBC's "The West Wing" as well as one season on "Dexter" for which he earned his 12th Emmy nomination. After receiving rave reviews in London, GOD OF CARNAGE opened on Broadway with Smits on March 22, 2009 to unanimous praise.
Gaghan is perhaps best known for his screenwriting on "Traffic" and "Syriana", both of which garnered Academy Awards.
According to the TV Line description of the currently untitled NBC show: "The pilot centers on Los Angeles Mayor Mayor Alfonso Morales (Smits) and his Special Investigations Unit led by detective Terry Mullins (Noah Emmerich), who has returned to LA to reconnect with his 15-year-old daughter Jennifer (Emma Dumont) and try to get along with his ex-wife and Jennifer's mother, high-powered attorney Mary McCarthy (Madchen Amick). Morales is a man full of ambition who cares deeply about his city, power and women, perhaps in reverse order."
