Comic and actor Jerry Seinfeld says his online series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" is a social experiment to isolate what makes people funny, he tells Anthony Mason in an interview on CBS SUNDAY MORNING, to be broadcast today, May 31 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

The series, which is entering its sixth season and has already been viewed nearly 100 million times, features Seinfeld and other A-list comics talking about the business while driving around in sports cars.

"So part of it, to me, is this kind of social experiment of, like I sometimes think of it as I'm just trying to isolate a gene here and put it on display," Seinfeld says. "I go, 'Look at these weird people.'"

Seinfeld tells Mason comics have something in common.

"The world to you is ridiculous," Seinfeld says of comics. "And everyone in it is a clown."

Seinfeld became a television phenomenon with the hit comedy "Seinfeld," yet despite the fame and fortune that came with the show, he says his heart will always be in standup.

"I love comedy. And as much as I love it, I love talking about it," he tells Mason. "And I also like that as much as I know, the whole thing is still this smoke ring of nothing that nobody can really seem to nail down."

In an interview that is part of CBS SUNDAY MORNING's design-themed edition, Seinfeld talks with Mason about LIFE AFTER "Seinfeld," the surprising difficulty he had trying to find an outlet for his online comedy series, and whether his children might follow in his footsteps. CBS SUNDAY MORNING was also on hand when Seinfeld gave a surprise performance at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City.

"It's so pure and I just love it," Seinfeld says of the comedy craft. "A laugh is such a pure thing. There's no opinion to it. Almost every other creative field has to suffer the interpretive opinion culture, but not a standup comic. You may not like this guy, but if he's getting laughs, he's going to work."

CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00-10:30 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
