Javier Bardem is in negotiations to join the ensemble cast of Legendary's reboot of "Dune," according to Variety.
The film's cast currently includes Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, and Charlotte Rampling.
Set in the distant future, "Dune" follows Paul Atreides (Chalamet), whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man's relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family's reign.
Bardem will play Stilgar, the leader of a tribe that helps Chalamet's character.
Denis Villeneuve will direct and co-write the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.
Bardem could recently seen starring opposite his wife Penelope Cruz in "Everybody Knows" and "Loving Pablo."
