Deadline reports exclusively that Jaume Collet-Serra is set to helm Walt Disney Studio's recently announced live-action JUNGLE CRUISE film, starring Dwayne Johnson. The director will now step down from helming Warner Bros' upcoming sequel SUICIDE SQUAD 2. Production is set to get underway next spring.
According to the site, Collet-Serra could not turn down the opportunity to "originate a new Indiana Jones-like action-adventure franchise in lockstep with one of the most globally bankable film stars."
While few plot details on the project have been announced, the film will be based on the iconic Disney theme park attraction which takes guests on a guided tour through the rivers around the world. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay penned the most recent script draft.
Collet-Serra first burst onto the Hollywood scene with his hit film ORPHAN. His other film credits Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night and The Shallows. He most recently wrapped filming on The Commuter, starring Liam Neeson and will soon take on the scripted drama Waco.Photo Credit: Walter McBride / WM Photos
