In an interview with TVLine.com, Jane Lynch commented on the recent casting shake-up on her long-running FOX TV series GLEE.

Last week, FOX execs confirmed that series staples Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, and Harry Shum, Jr. will not return as regulars for the fifth season. Dianna Agron will also depart the series, except for an occasional guest appearance while Jayma Mays has just joined the CBS' comedy The Millers, and is expected to make only guest appearances on the series.

"That's the nature of portraying a realistic view of high school: Kids graduate. They move on," explains the the actress. "I like that we're following some of the kids to New York where they're trying to make it as actors and actresses. But the show will evolve, and when a show evolves that means you have to let some people go, and let some storylines go, so that you can pursue new ones."

Commenting on the storyline of her own character, cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, Lynch revealed that although she has not seen any scripts for the upcoming season, she is sure she will, "figure in the plot somehow, since I am coming back. But how will I be allowed back? Your guess is as good as mine."

Asked if she thinks the Cheerios coach may end up joining Rachel, Kurt and Santana in the Big Apple, the Emmy-nominated actress explains, "they've come up with some really interesting things for me [in the past]. I wouldn't be surprised. It wouldn't shock me. But I certainly haven't heard anything about it."

Yesterday, E! News confirmed that Matthew Morrison, Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss and Jenna Ushkowitz will all appear as series regulars this fall while the show's Melissa Benoist (Marley), Jacob Artist (Jake), Becca Tobin (Kitty), Blake Jenner (Ryder) and Alex Newell (Unique) have been promoted to series regulars.

FOX premieres GLEE's fifth season on Thursday, September 19.
