Deadline.com reports that Sony Pictures, MGM, and Eon Productions have officially announced that the 23rd James Bond picture, SKYFALL, is the biggest grossing film in the history of the franchise. The film took in $89.0M million this weekend internationally, making it's total overseas earnings a whopping $428.6 million. Opening this weekend in U.S. and Canadian theaters, Skyfall took in an additional $90M bringing the worldwide estimated total to $518.6M. A source with Sony Pictures told Deadline, “We are off to an amazing start."
In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace and Tonia Sotiropoulou star in the film.
