The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) just announced that the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC), a nonprofit cultural arts center and one of the most successful suburban film houses in the country, was chosen to receive an Art Works grant of $30,000. The grant will be used to support The Power of Film: Community Engagement and Dialogue, which strengthens JBFC's commitment to creating a vibrant and connected community by fostering meaningful discussions and cross-cultural awareness through featured series. By integrating special guests and audience engagement opportunities, the Power of Film introduces the public to a wealth of ideas and brings awareness to issues of both local and international significance. The Power of Film includes five specific series:
· REMIX: The Black Experience in Film, Media, and Art
· Community Matters: Local Issues, Discussion, Action
· Global Watch: Crisis & Social Action
· Contemporary Arab Cinema
· Focus on Nature
"The Jacob Burns Film Center is grateful and overjoyed to receive our twelfth year of funding from the NEA. This support is vital to our mission to educate, entertain, and inspire 10,000 members and over 200,000 visitors each year, along with students, teachers, and emerging artists. We all experience the power of film together," said JBFC Executive Director Edie Demas.
NEA Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $27 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. Art Works is the Arts Endowment's principal grantmaking program.
"The arts enhance our communities and our lives, and we look forward to seeing these projects take place throughout the country, giving Americans opportunities to learn, to create, to heal, and to celebrate," said Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.
