Genius Media, Inc. a Utah based firm and Janick Entertainment of Los Angeles announced today that they have created a new television series based on the main character in the Jack Bass series of novels written by Dr. Ed Dasso.

"Ed's books are beloved by his LEGION of fans," Wid Bastian of Genius Media, Inc. explains. "His main character, Dr. Jack Bass, is a physician with the caring nature of Hawkeye Pierce, a man truly dedicated to the healing arts. However, Jack is forced into situations as an Army physician and again as a civilian where he is directly confronted by evil. Bass then becomes Charles Bronson and DISPATCHES villains with a vengeance."

According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a serious is a significant public health problem in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) deployed veterans. A study found that 15.7% of OEF/OIF deployed Veterans screened positive for PTSD. Individuals with PTSD may have intense and unpredictable emotional experiences. Anger and aggressive behavior may be ways of establishing a sense of control.

In the novels and in the television series, Jack Bass suffers from a severe case of PTSD. His judgment is at times impaired. Jack suffers from flashbacks and hallucinations. "Is Jack a hero, a bad guy or a combination of both?" Wid Bastian asks. "The audience will root from Jack from the beginning and identify with him, but it may be a while before they discover the truth. Is Jack the kind, caring doc everyone admires and loves, or does he have a Dr. Hyde inside him that he cannot control?"

"We have created a very entertaining and significant scripted television product," Bruce Nahin, co-producer of Jack Bass, M.D. says. "One of the goals we hope to achieve along the way is to give more exposure to the mental health struggles our veterans are facing, often with too few resources and less than adequate support."

Jack Bass, M.D.'s pilot script and season one story arc are written. Talent has been approached and is committing to the project. "Our confidence is high that we will find the right home for Jack Bass, M.D. There is really nothing else out there quite like this show. The initial responses I've received from targeted producers and networks have been very positive," Bruce Nahin explains.

For now, Jack Bass fans have to be content with downloading Ed Dasso's novels from amazon.com. Soon, however, they may be seeing their favorite doctor-hero as the main character in a network series.
