DANCING WITH THE STARS' JR Martinez has been chosen to be the Grand Marshal of this year's 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade, according to E!Online. The annual parade will take place on January 2, 2012 prior to the 98th Rose Bowl game. Martinez will also have the honor of tossing the coin at the start of the game.
Martinez, a war veteran of the Iraq War, was severely injured when the Humvee he was riding in during the war hit a land mine. He is currently a crowd favorite on this season's DANCING WITH THE STARS and has consistently placed among the top two dancers in the competition.
Martinez is thankful for the opportunity he will have to bring his message of "hope and possibility" to others, while at the same time, call attention to his fellow soldiers who have been injured in the ongoing war.
Rick Jackson, Tournament of Roses president believes the actor is the ideal candidate for the honor because of his "courage and dedication" to all Americans facing challenges.
