According to the Hollywood Reporter, J.K. Rowling is currently sueing the Daily Mail for defamation based on an article titled "How J.K. Rowling's sob story about her past as a single mother has left the churchgoers who cared for her upset and bewildered".

As reported by The Guardian, Rowling says she unfairly presented as accusing "her fellow churchgoers of behaving in a bigoted, unchristian manner towards her, of stigmatizing her and cruelly taunting her for being a single mother."

Rowling denies the statement, claiming the Daily Mail chose to wrongly exploit "...a single occasion involving a woman who had visited the church one day whilst she was working there."

The Daily Mail has since taken down the article.

The U.K. has recently reformed its defamation law, and this upcoming case will test the waters so to speak; the result could be an implication of how the new law will be handled in future cases.
