On a press call to promote his new FOX series ALMOST HUMAN today, J.J. Abrams spoke about the recent turnover of writers for the highly anticipated next installment of STAR WARS.
The 'Fringe' creator explained that it was the time frame for the film which prompted the decision for him to take over the script along with Empire Strikes Back co-writer Lawrence Kasdan. "It became clear that given the time frame and given the process and the way the thing was going that working with Larry in this way was going to get us where we need to be and when we needed to be," said Abrams.
Late last month it was announced that Abrams would take over the script writing for the latest sequel to the mega franchise from the project's original scribe Michael Arndt . Filming is scheduled to get underway in early 2014 in the UK.
"Working with Michael was a wonderful experience and I couldn't be a bigger fan of his or adore him more, He's a wonderful guy and was incredibly helpful in the process," Abrams said of Arndt, adding, "that doesn't preclude working with Michael again in the future." Abrams added, "he is one of the best writers around."
Abrams latest project over at Fox, the futuristic Almost Human, will premiere over two nights on November 17 and 18. The police drama stars Karl Urban and Michael Ealy as partnered LAPD cops in 2048.
