At NBC's recent TCA event to promote his new series BELIEVE with Alfonso Cuaron, J.J. Abrams confirmed that STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is moving "full steam ahead," in "deep pre-production," with the script complete, according to IGN.

Abrams also confirmed that BREAKING BAD's Jesse Plemons was in talks for one of the lead roles in the film, as previously speculated.

"He was one of the people we spoke with," Abrams said. "It's not often that I'm reading about actors I'm meeting. I read articles about meeting with actors and then when I see them it's like, 'Oh, I read I'm going to be meeting with you!' It's usually agents talking with people about things."

No word yet on who Plemons would play, though rumors suggest he could take on the role of Luke Skywalker's son.

In other news on the STAR WARS front, Disney recently confirmed that R2-D2 will officially be back for the upcoming film. Also expected to return for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII are original leads Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by Abrams and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score the film.

Plemons, known for portraying 'Todd' on the cult TV series Breaking Bad, will next be seen on the big screen in The Homesman. He has also appeared in The Master, Battleship, and Varsity Blues. Other small screen credits include Bent, Friday Night Lights and more.
