JANE THE VIRGIN's Gina Rodriguez has lined up a new role.

According to Variety, the Golden Globe winner is in talks to join Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming film DEEPWATER HORIZON, "which details the 2010 explosion on the BP rig that resulted in the biggest oil spill in U.S. history." Matthew Michael Carnahan penned the film's script, which Peter Berg will direct.

Based on the New York Times article by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul, DEEPWATER HORIZON follows an electrician stationed on the oil rig (Wahlberg) and "Andrea Fleytas, the 23-year-old who was monitoring the oil rig's safety systems in the moments before the explosion. She testified later that she did not immediately sound an alarm because she had not been training to deal with multiple warnings." Rodriguez will play Fleytas should she officially sign on.

DEEPWATER HORIZON will hit theaters on Sept. 30, 2016.

Rodriguez won a Golden Globe last year for her starring role in The CW series JANE THE VIRGIN. She was also named in The Hollywood Reporter's "Top 35 Latinos under 35" list and was also was a breakout star at Sundance 2012 for FILLY BROWN.
