Telemundo announced today that the multi-faceted award-winning actress and singer Lucero will host its upcoming mega-reality musical competition, "Yo Soy El Artista" (I Am the Artist), slated to premiere in September. Given her extensive artistic career, the Mexican-born actress, television host and multi-platinum singer joins Telemundo's new Sunday prime-time reality competition as a master of ceremonies, where she will not only host the competition, but also have a say in the future of the contestants. With castings completed across major cities in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, "Yo Soy el Artista" will feature talented contestants who will have to sing, dance and demonstrate star quality and showmanship, in an intense 13-week competition where the winner will be named the ultimate true "Artist."
"I am extremely happy to be the host of 'Yo Soy el Artista,'" said Lucero. "It is a powerful reality concept with all the necessary ingredients to discover great new talent and develop them. I love that aspect of the show. These types of programs are attractive for the audience and very important for so many artists who are waiting for a great opportunity. I also am thrilled to work with such a great team of professionals who are fully committed to such an important project."
"Lucero embodies the essence of what we call a true Artist," said
Jesus Torres Viera, EVP of Programming at Telemundo. "Her successful career in acting, singing and performing, together with her charismatic and charming on-stage persona make her the ideal MC for this revolutionary show."
Born in Mexico City, Lucero has sold more than 27 million records worldwide and is recognized in Latin
America and Mexico as "La Novia de America" (America's sweetheart). Since she was a little girl, she has been familiarized with hosting competition shows such as "Juguemos a Cantar" where she also sang the theme song "America esta es tu Cancion." Lucero gained her first regular high-profile role in a popular children's show in Mexico City called "Alegrias de Mediodia" at the early age of 10. Since then, she has released a series of successful albums and many of her songs have topped the music charts across the world. As an actress, she received her first leading role in the film "Coqueta" and went on to film a total of seven movies and star in multiple telenovelas including "Alborada," which earned her an Emmy Award, "Mañana es Para Siempre," "Soy tu Dueña" y "Por ella Soy Eva." Leading Spanish-language publication "People en Español" named her the "Queen of the Telenovelas" in its 2013 "50 Most Beautiful People" issue. Lucero has hosted the Latin
Grammy Awards eight times and the Mexican Telethon since 1997, in addition to the Telethon in Chile, Guatemala, El
Salvador and the U.S. Lucero also was a coach in the successful singing competition "La Voz Mexico" in its first season.
Telemundo and Spain's Reset TV partnered to jointly own, develop, produce and distribute this reality competition series based on an original concept from Reset TV founders Toni Cruz and Josep Maria Mainat, the creators of popular entertainment formats such as Cronicas Marcianas (Martian Chronicles), Mira Quien Baila (Look Who's Dancing) and Operacion Triunfo (Star Academy), among others.
